In the Times of Postman

Remember the times when letters were the best way to connect with relatives, cousins or friends!
The Airmail, Inland letters or envelopes were perhaps the most awaited posts in every home!

They would be the always welcomed visitor in any locality!
Clad in the brown khadi uniform, riding on a bicycle or even by walk!

They could be seen carrying a Gandhian style sling cloth bag full of neatly arranged deliverables!
He definitely basked in a lot of blessings as every letter carried abundance of emotions!

Any news and every news of a family traveled miles and weeks, finally to the address by this amazing gentlemen!
At times they would also read out the content to the elderly people who would have tears of joy brimming in the eyes !

The times when pen friends we're trending, they would make a child smile by shouting out about their letter from a distance!
Festival times meant the busiest times as their bag would be full of cards and gifts from across the country!

They would take a break during those times as people would treat them with kindness served via tea and snacks!
Any pleasant news to any house would guarantee a share in kind and cash that epitomized sincere gratitude to him!

Some of them were extremely knowledgeable and given a chance, would discuss about any topic under the Sun!
I remember the smile of the postman who visited our colony, once in two weeks!

Even though the trend of hand written letters has become outdated with electronic mails and social media connecting people across the globe, within seconds and often taken for granted!
The immense joy while receiving a letter from our dear ones, as a surprise through the earnest postmen, was much more than words can express!
